Hello,
I'm a first time tomatoes grower and was wondering when I start feeding my plants? Any advice appreciated.
Holly
I have just answered a similar question in " garden clinic" so have a look at the link I submitted there.
Usually when you see the first tiny toms. If you can, sink some plastic bottles into the ground near the plant, about 3 inches down. Few holes drilled in the tops and a small hole (1") cut into the base.
Feed your plants on top of the ground and water them through the sunken bottles. This gets the water to the lower roots and reduces the water evaporating from the surface of the soil. Cheers, Tony.
That is interesting about watering tomatoes, I shall use a sunken 1/2ltr mineral bottle but how often will they need to be watered in my greenhouse? Every day, every other day or more often. I do not want to overwater and drown them.
I am guessing in greenhouse-are they in ground. pots or growbags?
I made a raised area down one side of the green house it is about 7ft long 2ft wide and 2ft high
I have mine in bottomless pots which raises them up from the bed and water both the pot and bed daily during really hot days but the weather hasn't warmed up enough yet so am checking them daily and probably watering every other day.
Mine have their first flowers so will start to feed them weekly.
The water bottle idea works really well, I did that last year but forgot to put in the bottles this year
