HELLO, A FRIEND GAVE ME A SMALL TREE TWO YEARS AGO, THINKING IT WAS A CHERRY TREE. IT FLOWERED EARY THIS SPRING, THE FLOWERS APPEARING BEFORE THE LEAVES. BUT IT IS DEFINATELY NOT A CHERRY, THEY LOOK LIKE SMALL ALMONDS AT THE MOMENT, GREEN BUT TURNING RED WHERE THE SUN CATCHES THEM, WITH A ROUGH SKIN.
I CHECKED FOR ALMONDS ON THE NET AND THEY CERTAINLY ARE NOT THEM. THE BARK ON THE TREE IS A MOTTLED GREY/ BROWN, THE LEAVES ARE OVAL IN SHAPE.

Do you think that it could be an apricot? What colour was the blossom? It would be easier if you could show us a photo of your tree.
Sounds like a Marula tree to me, with the fruit equally popular with humans and elephants! - the trees are more common in southern Africa, Have a look at and see what you think..
