3 of my lettuces have suddenly collapsed , can't see any pests so have watered them but doubt they will survive. The rest of them in the same bed are fine (so far). I am having probs with mice and moles could they be the cause? No sign of a mole hole though. Oh well sow some more!

This could be your problem i.e. they are too wet!
Sacrifice one of them and check the state of the stem at soil level.
Its probably rotted (Neck rot).
This is quite common when the lower leaves are touching the soil / compost they sweat and rot!
If it is not this then you might see some other signs below ground level!
Could also be cut worm.
