    Hi,
i am growing some tomatoes in growbags in my new greenhouse, and i've noticed the leaves on some of the plants have curled. I water regularly and i don't think they can have dried out. The flowers seem to be dying off, too. Can anybody suggest what's wrong?
    thanks

    Hi firefly,
This sounds to me of two possibles, (1) being that your not watering enough and allowing to much time between watering? Never let the compost dry out.

    (2) The plants are to high up in the greenhouse or in direct sunlight and these plants are getting sun bleached,

A possible (3) problem could be both the time of day your watering and your letting water go all over the leaves and then the sun causes the sun bleached leaves,

Oh and one more thing to look out for "if your feeding via liquid feed? dont let the leaves get wet with feed in the water, this again can cause the leaves to change colour, always feed via the bottom of the plant and not the leaves.

You should star to feed as soon as the flowers appear and not before.

Right here goes- this a temperature thing- too cold at night and too hot by day- the leaf curl is a classic symptom of cold temperature at night - nothing much you can do about that -just close up the greenhouse at night (including vent)-plants will grow out of this.
The reason why your flowers are dropping off is high temperature and low humidity during the day- have you shaded the green house?-open it up ( including vent!)-during the heat of the day and spray the floor and mist the plants - this will increase the humidity and eventually the flowers will set.
What you are basically looking for is a constant day/night temperature which in an unheated garden greenhouse is hard to achieve-dont worry you will get fruit- just ask the millions of gardeners out there!!

Tomatoes flowers need "buzz" pollination from bees. Most commercial growers these days have bee hives in their houses but prior to this they had electronic buzzers which where held against the trusses.

An old grower showed me how he helped pollination by flicking the trusses sharply with his finger. Whether this works or not I can't say but he always had good pollination and so have I.

Give it a try. Nothing ventured...

My Uncle used to thibk I was crazy, when I used to go over the tomator flowers with a feather.

"He's tickling the plants again ... call the doctor" would be his comment.

I was told to keep the greenhouse humid around noon and tap / brush the flowers gently if there were no bees in the area.

    It worked for me
