Yes, I know it is early to start making plans for next but due to problems this year have decided the following.

Purchase 2 heated propagators I planted my seeds in the mid part that is said on the packet (so if it said feb-april i planted march) but even so they took weeks to come up some didnt so had to start again. This way I can give them a good start.

2 unheated propagators so that once ready to move on can give them little bit more protection in the greenhouse.

And the list goes on, has any body else started their to do list?

    wendy

I've not got as far as to be thinking of next year but after a failed attempt at growing xmas spuds last year, when I vowed never again, have been surfing the internet for some to grow this year, last dispatch is July.

Would you believe it though most places have sold out of spuds for xmassmiley - biggrin

I only found two sites with them still in stock.

My to do list is the same as last year.
About 1/3 of an acre to be turned into raised beds for bush fruit and the rest for fruit trees. Then fence across and get some hens.
It will probably be the same next year but with some of it done.

I started on building a coilhot bed and then thought that I would just get another mini propagator if i need it, but the frame of the bed with the insulating celotex/polystyrene underneath is useful in any case.

You can start 400 Lupin seedlings off in a heated mini-prop but you still need 5" pots and the soil ,when you have got them going.

You can pot more or less everything as soon as they can be handled, in 5-7days.
It might be better to get an optivisor or better pair of specs, than another propagator, so that you can see what you are handling, rather than try to handle more.

40 Lupins take quite a lot of effort to deal with, so do you need another propagator at all? You/I could sell 30 at the gate, and still have plenty left, and have plenty of time to re-seed the propagator, several times, in the course of the spring.

I am assuming that yours is heated too.

    Hi Wendy,
Hope your well and enjoying this lovely spring weather,

Ref plans for next year, i feel anyone with gardening skills will always be thinking ahead, ive a diary and just looking at august of this year & ive noted
    (1) "Check order for all october planting bulbs has been sent"
    (2) bubble wrap second greenhouse (this greenhouse will be going up in september)

And the list goes on, and as this summer goes on i'll be adding to this list all the time,

    Wendy,
just one small point ref greenhouse seeds etc,
I did mention early on this year that im looking at "Not" sowing so many seeds in the greenhouse as the cost of keeping the heat up (ie fuel cost etc) is really getting very costly,

Have you thought of perhaps buying your plants from the garden centre a little later than you'd plant seeds and then growing on the plants,,,???

This way you let the growers use their heat/compost etc and you 'll save money by not burning heat,

If you sit down and work out the cost /risk etc of seed sowing early you'll soon see that you could buy a lot of plants to grow on.

Seeds are great when you dont need to worry about frost, etc and a lot of seeds grow fine from may onwards when with a bit of luck the frost has gone.

I do buy 4 bags per month from october to april of compost, this gives me a good supply and its ready for use such as getting the hanging basket's started.
So Wendy your not alone in starting early.

    Regards Punpun.
