Hi, this is the first year me and my family have decided to grow salad and vegetables properly, and to be honest i don't know why i never did it before, it's so easy.
I have one question, is it true that you can't grow potato's from a standard (out the sack/tesco/greengrocer) potato thats grown seed leg's in my garage??? Why do you have to grow from special seeded potato's??? And is it true they can be poisonous if grown that way??
thanks
You might be able to grow a potato that way but a lot of shop brought potatoes have an inhibitor to stop sprouting- give it a go - what have you got to lose?
They are not poisonous to my knowledge- only potatoes that have gone green from too much light are poisonous
Seed potatoes come from virus and disease free stock and are bred for that purpose.
i grow mine exactly like this in containers in the garden, but also grow seeded ones on the allotment. They are not poisionous this way but dont eat any green ones. I usually have main crop on the allotment over 20 weeks but ususally grow the container ones for 12 weeks only so they are small new pototoes - give it a go!!
excellent, result, thankyou both. i'll look forward to trying them, the original was an ambo type and they were spot on.
