Planted these out and the next day they looked like this, this is the 3rd year in a row that the same thing has happened and always to beans!!! No trail (slug/snail) and no sign of caterpillars, wire netting around it so don't think it is birds either!!! Could it be something living in the soil??

Have you guarded against slugs any way ?
Some small even tiny slugs live in the soil and so don't leave much of trace behind, I learnt that the hard way myself, a carped of blue pellets soon sorted them out.

Slug pellets are conspicuous by their absence.
I am certain that it is either slugs or snails.

I have done my best to eliminate them (impossible) and on the whole at least manage to keep their numbers down early on when my plants are young small and tender.
Later in the season when the plants are bigger and my diligence wains they come back but by then my plants can stand a certain amount of their attention by then.

Right lets start again- you say you put pellets out when planted -where are they we cant see any in photos?
Did you harden off plants before you planted out ?- this could cold weather damage.
Is that wire netting?- could plants perhaps have rubbed against this in wind?
Just trying to come up with some options to solve your problem.
I'm glad you can sleep with all these worries!!
