I bought some plants the other just to fill a space in a raised bed, 28 plants all together then realised I had no idea how far apart to plant them and I guess they will need support like any other pea ? how high ?

I've never grown any variety of pea too lazy to shell them !! but I reckoned on needing to with mange tout ...lazy git. smiley - smiley

I know anecdotally about how to grow peas but never actualy done it, sorry if my questions are daft.

I have tended to types of beans up to now just because they are easier to harvest and I like 'em.

I haven't a lot of experience at mange tout, so I stand to be corrected here, but I usually grow them exactly as I do any other kind of pea. I put them in pretty close together (3-4 inches, no more) and let them get on with it.

As for how tall they grow, you'd have to check the variety you have. Most of mine get to about 3 feet and yes, the ones I've grown do appreciate support

However this may be a case of the blind leading the blind, so I defer to all the others out there with more experience

I grew mangetout last year and am growing them again. Very nice peas and you do save on podding them.

I agree with northwards except I've spaced my canes about 7-8inches apart but planted one plant either side of the canes. They like full sun but will grow in a part of my garden which loses the sun about 3pm they grow a little bit slower in part shade so crop later.
