Hello
I wouldn't bother- you would be better off buying plants at this time of year.

Is it too late to sow a new batch? The first lot died of damping of. The second has been nibbled to stalks by the evil slugs bar one. If you are growing 'outdoor ' cucumbers you could try and station sow under jam jars - 2 or 3 seeds together , thinning to the strongest . I did this in my poly tunnel last week . I have some at the climbing stage , but as cucumbers crop for a relatively short period I like to get a succession . A second sowing gives you this, I do the same with courgettes and sweet corn .
They are outdoor ones. Did as you said with some plants last year with some PET bottles. Maybe I should do that with the last one and plant some new ones.
Might buy a plant if my colleague at work brings some in again.
