Hi,
I'm attempting to grow chilli plants (in tubs) for the first time, does anyone have any advice on feeding? Will tomato feed do the job or is there something more appropriate out there? I have no knowledge so all info gratefully received!
Cheers.
Last year I fed them tomato liquid feed and had a decent crop though not very big fruits. That could have been partly due to the less than lovely summer we had. I'm growing them again in increased numbers and different varieties. Nowt like a bit of heat.
Cheers for the info Jamie, I'll give it a whirl, they look fairly healthy but I read that they need feeding and had visions of killing them by pouring something they hate over them!

I used tomarto feed last year for my chillies and peppers, you only need to feed them once a week. Mine were small fruits though but I put it down to growing them in grow bags and the roots being too shallow so have planted them in deeper pots this year.
When you feed them don't pour it over the plant but water the base of the plant, that's what is usually advised for toms so I figured chillies are the same.
Tomato feed is good for any plant where the intended outcome is the fruit, so yes, use it for chillies.

Zoomer, didn't you grow Apache chillies last year? I did as well and none of the fruits were longer than about one and a half inches. This year I've gone for Cayenne from seed, Scotch Bonnet from g/c, Tabasco from Asda and a couple of Apache from g/c. It will be interesting to compare this season's crop if the long awaited good summer actually arrives.
Gosh Jamie you know better than me what I grew last year. Which ever variety it was I've still loads left. I dried them and used some yesterday in a chilli. They were very hot and most have kept their colour, one or two have turned orange.
Without going out to the GH to check I've about four varieties of chillies this year and the same for peppers. They seem very slow to grow this year though. I had trouble germinating seeds this year so they are all either homebase, B and Q or GC plants.
Good luck.

wait for the flowers to start showing then a week mix of sulphate of potash every couple of days. Sulphate of Potash 48% K
I grew apache chillis and mine also were not very long but there were plenty on the bush. To feed I used tomorite but also my own seaweeed mix to give them a bit of oomph. I have read that to make the chillis hot , be mean with the watering, the opposite being true for toms and cu's
This year I'm growing apach, scotch bonnet and another I cant' remember. However, the seeds in little plastic pockets which I purchased on ebay have been a total flop. Not one germinated and thatt's using a heated propagator as well.

Same thing happened to me, and tomato/pepper seeds are supposed to be some of the more resilient, which made me suspicious. The ones I got and didn't work - no matter how many times I tried, were bolivian rainbow.
