There are lots of different kinds of gooseberries, so a lot will depend on what kind you have. If this is the ordinary kind that has the small green berries, then you'd usually expect to pick the berries maybe around late June or July (depending on where you live).

You probably won't get many this year as it needs to settle in. When it gets into its stride you should get quite a few berries on it. We had two bushes and it produced WAY too much for us. One bush would have been plenty

The bush can get maybe waist or chest high, depending on how it's grown. It will probably appreciate some pruning when it gets older, but as this is its first year I'd just leave it alone. It will appreciate some feeding and you should make sure it doesn't get too dry

    Good luck with your bargain!

    Focus are closing down

B+Q have actually bought 31 of the Focus stores, 2 other companies have got some more and the rest are being closed, all the stock from the ones that are closing is being sold as Liquidation stock so definitely some bargains to get.

I`m not surprised Focus are closing down. I`m just surprised they kept going as long as they did.
Their "service" is terrible, at least in the store in our town.

We went to our local Focus yesterday tos see if there were any bargains. The staff there say they don't know what's happening to this store (well, it's about what you'd expect from Focus management). They had 10% off plants, but most of them were in a bad state - I don't expect the staff have been motivated to care for the plants if they know they're losing their jobs. No great bargains here - or perhaps other people had beaten us to it and snapped up the good stuff.

Our local Focus had 20% off just about everything.

So we stocked up on Evergreen weed feed and moss killer, bought a few Hozelock bits and bobs and some new garden tools. smiley - ok

It's sad that it's closing, but I too am surprised they managed to keep going as long as they did. It always seemed a bit communist to me, with bare shelves and what stock there was always seemed more expensive than B & Q.
