I am about to pot up my tomato plants and was wondering what is the best growing medium, usually I put 3 to a grow bag and use the high rings that have the watering ring around it, some I have to put into pots, both do equally well, but both have grow bags as a growing medium. Just wondered if GP compost might be better? Just to add the tomatoes are grown outside and are Gardeners delight and sweet millions.

Westlands do a good bag of farmyard manure, I'd mix in a couple of handfulls of that with your compost add a handfull of B.F.&B. and off you go. Cheers, Tony.

I haven't used grow-bags for a few years- but you may do better to put only 2 plants in-I know there are usually 3 "plots"- but it is a good idea to make the grow-bag deeper- if you shake the compost to one end making a squatter bag(does this make sense?)- as regards compost any will be fine you just might find that the grow-bag compost is a bit coarser than multi-purpose but all will give a good result if watered and fed as usual.
Hope this helps
Geoff

In my pots I use a mixture of equal parts of multipurpose compost, good garden soil and well-rotted compost from the bin to which I add the required amount of Westland slow-release fertiliser. This mix was recommended by Which? Gardening a year or so back and it works well.

Thanks everyone, I used multi purpose in the end, in pots, much easier to move about if you need to, they look to be doing ok.
