I spotted a ladybird on my potato foliage yesterday (1st of the year), red with small black spots. When it was still there this morning I checked and found there are LOTS aphids on the foliage of my spuds.
Just now I saw another ladybird on some nettles, this one was a yellow colour with a black line down it's back and black rectangular blocks. If I transfer the latter to my spuds are they species which would kill each other?

Have a look on this web site and see if you can match yours up, just click on the name on the right hand side and a picture will come up.

Thanks Rain, this looks identical :-
14-spot ladybird Propylea quattuordecimpunctata.
It had actually moved off but I'll keep my eyes open for it.
I found a harlequin ladybird the other day. It went into a jam jar so I could double check the identification before I dispatched it.

My "missing" ladybird has reappeared - on my potato foliage this afternoon and both are busy hopefully eradicating the aphid population.
