For the last 3 years we have had kilos and kilos of fruit off our 5 huge cherry trees but this year there is hardly any fruit. Anyone have any ideas as to why? There isn't any sign of disease/pests, could it be the dry spring? (NW France) So disappointing -no cherry jam or cherry brandy this year!
Strangely the apple trees have loads of fruit and the plum and pear are looking good.

Could easily be lack of water, strangely enough I heard on the radio this morning of a similar problem with a Plum, although in that case the fruit had set,got to the size of a pea and then the tree aborted nearly all the plums.
The 'experts' advice was lack of water, the caller had been giving each tree about 10 Litres of water every 4 days, this was thought to be not enough at all, after such a dry Spring.

Could also be having a year off,our plums can vary so much from year to year.

    Hi GJ,

Our cherries have been disappointing this year after a fantastic flowering. I think also that it was too dry and warm too early plus a bit of biennial bearing too.

Disappointing but offers the promise of a good crop next year.

Last year my Mirabelle was laden, this year very few plums; last year, no Reine Claude this year, not too bad.

I think the message is to plant more trees! Hope you're now getting the rain.

    PS what's happened to punpun??????????
