My runner beans are growing with yellow leaves. Can someone tell me what the problem is please. I'm wondering if they need feeding with somethin.

I've never had a problem with this, so this is just guess work, but it might be lack of nitrogen in the soil. To get the best results for your runner beans you need to prepare your soil in advance with some form of manure. So you never need to feed your beans while they are growing, as it's already there in the soil.

Beans, like peas, produce their own nitrogen and fix it in the soil, so there shouldn't be too much nitrogen there to begin with, and, unless the soil is poor, shouldn't need fertilising.

Leaves can yellow if the plants are fairly newly established and the weather suddenly cools.

If not that they've caught the cold, it could be magnesium deficiency, so you could try giving them a dose of Epsom salts?

I think its a general problem at the moment and I have also got the same symptoms. Plants were looking very healthy and "burgeoning" as CK would say ten days ago but we had some cool overnight temperatures and winds last week here, SW Wales, and I think they are just sulking a bit. I did give them a spray with a general foliage fertilizer but made little difference.
I think when the air, and more especially ground temperature, starts climbing I think there will be a major change in appearance and condition-fingers crossed smiley - erm
    Good luck smiley - ok

I'm having the same problem and putting it down to too many cold nights.....they'll pick up when night time temperatures improve.
