I came home yesterday after a few days away to find my lemon apple cucumber has powdery mildew, I had a dig around the net to find a treatment & found quite a few using milk, so 1 part milk/9 parts water/ 2tsps Bicarb were added to spayer, plant was soak with solution around 10am & it stayed dry until rain in the evening, its growing in a large pot against a south facing fence,
Whilst reading about it I had noticed that some sites said it was caused by hot dry weather yet others said wet weather
Can anyone clarify this? also has anyone tried the molk treatment?
That should be milk not molk treatment!
I also added a tiny drop of washing up liquid as a wetting agent
Dampness, humidity and lack of air circulation usually contribute to powdery mildew. The recipe you found is a common one. The bicarb is said to create a pH on the leaf surface that the spores can't handle. No one quite knows why milk is involved but it is and has been for a long time.
