Watching some Sunday morning 'Nature programme' and was intrigued with commercial peas that all come to perfection all at the same time. I'de like to give this a bash as we do a bit of home freezing. Anyone out there know where to get a packet of seed peas? Cheers, Tony.

I think if you google semi-leafless peas you might get some ideas. I am growing Markana, they are supposed to be self-supporting, though I find they need a few twiggy sticks. They produce lots of tendrils and are quite decorative. You can harvest some of tendrils to put in salads or steam.

Tony, i'm not sure why you would want all your peas at the same time to be honest?

Growing a excellent crop of peas will mean you will get several weeks of peas. Once you freeze your peas they will never taste the same as when you pick them straight from the plant. In fact there is not a single type of vegetable, when frozen that resembles it's fresh counterpart.

I would disagree on this point
    Peas do freeze very well
I would agree that virtually all other crops do not taste as good a fresh
in fact I honestly believe petit pois out of a packet are better than those from my garden

Self standing peas only really work when they are grown as a patch rather than as a row when they will still fall over in one line
Growing peas as a patch is self defeating though as they will be very difficult to harvest

I like frozen peas but I still prefer them straight from the pod whilst I'm out in the garden. I eat them like sweets. Personally I like my peas to be ready for picking gradually instead of all at once.

Steve, peas or petit pois do freeze well. they are the only veg i have and will ever have in my freezer, but you can still tell the difference between them. The point in growing your own is to have that unique taste, that freshness when you eat your own veg, not chucking it in your freezer smiley - doh

If you honestly think frozen peas are better than your own fresh peas, give up growing peas fella or get your taste buds checked out smiley - yikessmiley - winkeye

At least mine taste great smiley - biggrin and no your not having any smiley - laugh

Now mushy peas freeze well, forgot about them. I do love mushy peas smiley - biggrin

Make a big batch up, use what you need and then portion them up.

    Rob
You are quite right about 90%+ of veg they are best straight out of the ground but peas
in fact you are right again
I have given up growing them
too much faff in my opinion like main crop spuds
    but everyone to their own
