This may be a daft question, and maybe I am being thick.
Anyway the thing is my lesser half only likes iceberg lettuce and I cant find anywhere that sells the iceberg seeds.
Is it just that I am looking in the wrong places? Does anyone know where I can get some?
I know I could probably go online and order them over the net but I only get the chance to use the internet at work and I have limited access here so I wouldn’t be able to order them that way.
Any help would be appreciated.
Webbs Wonderful is an iceburg type lettuce
Don, i've used seedparade.co.uk before. Good little website and delivery sevice. They have Iceberg seeds on there
I have seen Iceberg lettuce seeds at a Wyevale garden centre in Leicestershire. They seem to be taking over lots of GCs all over the place now so there may be one near you, it's worth a look. Q.
eBay is an good place to find seeds - lots of different varieties of hard to find seeds, and sometimes much cheaper than garden centres and shops!
Iceberg is almost a generic name for crunchy lettuces (known as crispheads) which have a mild flavour.
Here are some Iceberg type seeds to look for:
Lakeland, Miluna, Webbs Wonderful, Pablo, Reine des Glace.
I always grow Miluna as it tends to do well whatever the weather is like and lasts really well once cut.
Cheers -- Bob
good morning Don i bought some Iceberg seeds from B&Q about 3 weeks ago it might be worth giving them a look,i must admit though there was only 1 pk left so it looks as though they are popular, anyway best of luck in your search, kind regards Chris
They are in Lidl's at 29p a packet and are called Iceberg, as well as three or four other European names for the EEC market.
Thanks for the replies and all the info.
The websites are probably very good, but as I said I have restricted access at work and very little time at home (cant get on the computer do to children infestation) to look up and order seeds. I will definitely check out the sites when I have time and access to facilities.
Bob thanks for that I’ll keep my eyes open for miluna.
May call in Lidl on my way home, I’ve sown some little gem seeds I had left from 2 years ago but they haven’t grown. They did ok last year and the first year so I suspect the seeds are just too old now. Anyway this means that I haven’t got any lettuce at all at the moment.
Is it too late to sow some now? What is the latest date for sowing lettuce?
It is still o.k to sow seeds in situ and there are mixed salad leaves that can be picked after 3 weeks !Suttons do mixed leaves of different mixes
