This weekend I have dug up the first of my potatoes, they are charlotte first earlies.
This weekend is the first chance I have had to dig any up (or had time to cook them).
When I dug them up they were filthy, full of soil that clung to them like dodoo to a blanket.
How do I grow clean potatoes? Can I buy clean soil, or are all varieties of soil dirty?
Please help as my wife won’t let me bring dirty stuff into the house.
Don
Here is what you do-place the potatoes in the washing machine sneakily-put on a boil wash- you will have clean cooked potatoes-will be awarded 1000 brownie points and the divorce will be on hold!!
You cannot lose!!
( I am not responsible for any damage either physical or emotional that you as an adult my suffer-my advice is free- but I am covered by anonymity and a super-injunction )
Try hydroponics ! ! ! Cheers, Tony.
If I put them in the washing machine would they not taste of soap?
I tried hydroponics, but the potatoes just tasted watery.
If your advice isn’t sensible then may I suggest you keep it to yourself? Don’t you think I have enough on my plate?
I don't think you can grow clean potatoes why don't you just put a bucket of water by the front/back door rinse off the mud from the spuds and your problem is sorted.

I’ve seen clean potatoes in Tesco; they must have found a way to do it so why can’t I?
was an interesting thread. Bit late for this year though. Why not scrub them in a bucket of water outside?
I'm guessing this isn't a serious question, the clean vegetables in the supermarkets will have been washed prior to packaging up.

I suggest you keep the potatoes as they are, and duck the wife in the bucket.

Thanks to everyone for the best laugh I've had in ages.
Well done Don - trolling at it's very best!
Can I also say your name is, whilst not quite genius, pretty damned funny.
Thank you Geoff for posting the veg 'washing machine', maybe allotment associations should install this machine in a corner of the site to enable users to carry home clean veg, a la 'Tesco's' etc.........................
NDC
Can’t access the link so I’m not sure what the veg washing machine is, I can only imagine that it’s a washing machine for washing veg, which will be ok until you get a leek in it!

I think that Asda must be using the same washing machine as Tesco cos theirs are always clean as well wonder if they do the carrots in the same machine.
