When is the best time to get my 2nd early and maincrops out of the ground for storage? The second earlies are dying down now.
I have no special cold store so they go in a cool(ish) shed.
Maybe they are better of staying in the ground if the slugs aren't getting them?
Any science done on this please.

Leave 'em in the ground as long as you dare! Usually gid them as the floage dies off.
Before you pack them away, leave them on top of the ground for a couple of hours for the skins to 'ripen' or harden. The cooler (but stay above freezing) the shed and as little moisture as possible the better. Cheers, Tony.
FINGER TROUBLE . . .Dig them as the foliage dies off. Cheers, Tony.
do not dig any for storage until the skins are set properly
Best leave them till the conditions are cooler as they will start shooting if they are kept too warm
