Hi all! I'm trying tromboncino squash this year, only one plant as I believe they grow large and I don't have enough space for anymore!
I was wondering if anyone has any tips for this particular type of squash and more specifically whether it should grow up vertical supports or along the ground. I would quite like to get it growing up and out of the way!
Ps - Loving the heat after the rain we have had here (Reading) everything (including the weeds) is shooting up!
Hi
I am also growing a tromboncino for the first time, I read that it was a climber and therefore good for a patio, but mine is still too small to tell.
My packet said courgette?
Sorry no advice but would like to swap progress if you are interested.
Best grown up a trellis of some sort. It helps keep them keep a fairly straight shape. Unless you like curly ones!

Thanks Italophile, I will put in some sort of hardcore structure for it to climb up over the weekend! Gets it up and out of the way as well!
Kate, mine is about a metre in length at the moment and I guessed it was a climber as it has lots of little tendrils...currently cluching onto a few weeds on the ground!! Hoping it doesn't take over the whole plot!
I have read online that it needs some help with polination because the flowers only open for a few hours a day but I will let the bees try first before i start messing about with paintbrushes!
1 metre, flowers I am miles behind.

Warm weather and rain, bet you will catch up in no time!
Hi Youngandallotmenting!
You grow some of the greatest plants! I bought seeds from Seeds of Italy for this but found out my chilly Scottish patch was too cold so I'm saving them for next year when I get my poly up I'll be interested to see how you both get on
How're your strawberry spinach plants coming along?

Thanks Vixxi!
Squash has gone mental! Massive plant and growing several inches a day from several different climbing branches! Have 9 Squashes developing, one of which is 12 inches long (yes I measured it...sad huh!) Hope I like the taste of them as looks like I will be eating them all summer! Glad I only planted one!
Oh and the Strawberry spinach hasn't grown hardly at hoping it will spring in to life soon!
I have spotted what I believe is a small squash today, but I am a bit surprised as I never saw a flower.

Youngandallotmenting your plot is so pretty, I love the little ornaments, they give it a special touch.
Squashes seem to be romping along. I can't believe you have managed to get tomatoes outdoors either, where are you?
Borage flowers make a good addition to summer cocktails too, they conveniently hook on the side of the glass
After a month of nothing I now have 4 squash growing but they seem very long but also very thin. Is this what I should expect, will they get thicker ?
They're typically long and on the thin side.
I was looking forward to trying it but there is not enough for a meal yet, just wondering how long I have to wait.
They should be long - I've seen them here in Italy up to 3 feet - narrow, but with a bulbous sort of end. Like a fat snake with a very very fat head!
Here's a rough idea of what you should end up with:
I have a long way to go.
