I have just dug up some of my potatoes, and found about 40-50 little white eggs buried in the soil.
They are about 4-5-mm diameter and feel like balls of jelly.
Does anyone know what they could be?
Thanks
Sounds like "slug eggs" to me
Or snail eggs. But probably slugs.

Where do you live?
The reason i asked was that here in france it could be Lizard eggs, we have lots of them running about the place,
wont do any harm and can be friendly once they get to know you.
Thanks for reply. I live in Buckinghamshire so probably not lizards. So I guess they will be slugs as others have suggested. I have taken them out and put them in a container, so will keep a watch and see if they hatch out, then I will know for sure.
Thanks also for other replies.
If these are slug eggs (which it sounds like they are) then you may have a long wait to see what happens. Slug eggs can lay dormant for many years and will only hatch when conditions are right. A lot of what makes those conditions right is the adult slugs slime trail, as there will be no slime trails in the container then they may not hatch for years.
Slug eggs seem the favourite. But what about slow worms?
Interesting thought, but slow-worms are live-bearers and don't lay eggs

It isn’t PC to call them slow worms anymore!
They are worms that aren’t as fast as other worms.

I would say slightly smaller than 4-5mm for snail eggs, but it is mid summer, and warm. They prefer chalky areas do snails, but perhaps slugs do too.
How about breeding them on a bit, to find out? Lock them in an aerated box with plenty of greenery and they might soon hatch!
then you are a slug breeder at last!

Also they may not be eggs because if I remember rightly, they are translucent
mini- snails even at that phase of development, so if you have got your optivisors or strong specs, or magnifying glass of some sort, take a closer look!
They do tend to cuddle up in clusters at all phases of existence since they are both male and female at the same time(spare the technicality).
