Hey i would really like to grow some herbs on a window sill as i dont have a garden i am considering rosmary , basil , thyme, chilli and oregano
Can i plant them from seeds into containers now or is it to late in the season
I read in my rhs book that rosemary can be propagated by rooting semi ripe cuttings in the summer
    what does this mean?
I work in a garden where rosmary grows am i able to take a cutting and plant it in a container and if i do take a cutting which part do i cut it from
and do i leave all the leaves on the stem????
is potting compost adeqauate for growing herbs or i do i need to add perlite?
    thankyou

If you are growing indoors I would say rosemary , basil , thyme and oregano
could all be sown from seed now providing you have a warm sunny window sill, not so sure about sowing a a chilli plant from seed now, I've only ever grown them outdoors or in a GH and basil can be tricky, basil needs alot of light and warmth and is grown as an annual in this country, I struggle growing it outdoors but there are alot of people go on these boards who have grown it successfully..

Unless you have already purchased the seeds if you are only wanting one plant of each it would be just as cheap if not cheaper to purchase small plants and you would have an instance supply of herbs.

You may also be able to purchase a chilli plant at some Garden Centres.

I've not propogated rosemary but it is possible to do. If you know someone with a plant they can be split at the roots.

A general all purpose compost is fine for the herbs you've said and if you want to add perlite go ahead it will help retain moisture in the compost, it certainly won't do any harm.
