Hi everyone I'm a newbie here and need a bit of help as I'm also a newbie to growing vegetables. I bought a set of potato growing set which consists of 5 bags and 5 of each Vivaldi, Rocket and Charlotte tubers. They came packaged in nets and in a Jiffy bag, I put them in the outside storage cupboard and have never got round to planting them. I have just got them out and they have each sprouted quite long chits (i think thats the right term) Rocket are 6-7", the Charlottes are up to 12" and Vivaldi are 2-3" so basically my questions are 1) Are these still able to be planted and provide a crop? 2) Can I plant them with the chits that long or can they be cut down?.......Sorry for my complete lack of knowledge I am a total beginner at this

Haave a go! Don't remove the chits, and while planting don't damage the chits at all so that you get instant foliage, which you have to keep covering over with soil,
    to increase the tuvber crop.

You could wait untllate october to pick them.

You could wait until late october to pick them.

Without using those nice long chits you will get nothing.

You can leave spuds in from year to year.

In the garden it is surprising where they turn up.

Thankyou for your reply, I have kept the ones I thought looked the healthiest, I will be planting them in those potato growing bags, some of them have chits that are almost up to the top of the bag, what do I do when they come over the top, just keep letting them grow? I really am a novice at this!

Well 'novice' take a slap on the wrist and DON'T DO IT AGAIN ! ! !

We learn by our mistakes. I of course have never made any mitsakes. Cheers, Tony.

As some of the others have mentioned"............give them a go they will not be fit for anything else.

Personally I would remove the very long chits as nothing is likely to come from these and just leave say two of the shorts chits on each tuber.

I would imagine you might get something from your Rockets as these require a relatively short growing season.

With the others a lot will depend upon what the future weather has in store for us.

    Best of luck. Tg
