Hi, someone kindly gave me some runner bean plants but could not remember which particular ones they were. I have started to pick them now but they are not a straight green , they have red shades going to mauve in with the green skin. Are they alright to eat or is there something wrong with them. I did have to spray because of black fly but that was over a week ago. I'm hoping that they will be identifiable with their own particular name. Can anyone help identify them for me. Help would be appreciated, Cheers. Myplot
By your description could be Borlotti beans ! Cheers, Tony.
They are probably not runner (kidney) beans and they sound more like Borlotti beans as has been said.
They are in fact a type of climbing French bean and the colour on the pod is perfecvtly normal.
You could let the pods ripen to get the dried bean but if this is what you want they are much better quality bought. eat the pods green and enjoy them. They also freeze very well, just top and tail and freeze whole.
Hi, thankyou you both for your replies. I'm really gratefull and now know what to do with them. Again many thanks.
