Hi,
I've been growing tomatoes quite successfully in my greenhouse for a few years now, however last year and again this year, the skins are really tough. Can anyone suggest why this might be?
Thanks
Has a change in varieties coincided with the tougher skins? Some varieties, thanks to their genes, just have tougher skins than others. Plum varieties - Roma, etc - tend to have tougher skins. I have a golfball-sized French gold heirloom called Jaune Flammee that is utterly delicious. The only downside is that you need a chainsaw to slice it.
Other than that, excessive warmth can toughen skins.
Thanks for your reply. I haven't changed variety so maybe they got over-heated.
