Hello, I am new to gardening and bought some really old ( soft to the touch with 5cm shoots) maris piper potatos for planting today. Would they grow at all with such long shoots already. Also, I've piled soil around them, should I make the ground flat again? Thanks.
Yes you can grow them if you want, but be prepared for disappointment. They may not be ready before the frost gets them, or the blight. They may also carry disease. Maris Piper is a maincrop variety so will take some time to grow.
When you say you bought them I hope they were really, really, really cheap.
Grow them as normal - earthing them up as required.
