I've been growing these in a polytunnel and outdoors for 2-3 years and whilst the fruits are always very tasty, they always split from the top. I have tried more water, less water; more feed and less but always with the same results - splits.
    Any help please??
    Thanks

I assume you mean a split in terms of a crack, a crevice, rather than the skin bursting as a tomato can, for example, after a lot of sudden rain. If so, it's something BRs are prone to do. They're not alone. Some varieties crack in a circular pattern, around the top of the fruit, others crack lengthwise. It's thought to be related to the skin's capacity for expansion. It doesn't affect the flavour, as you've probably discovered, but if you want to avoid it you'll probably have to harvest a bit prematurely.

I think you need to pick it when it splits, because the tomato will start to rot if left on the plant. I find they are very prone to splitting.

Have to say, despite their wonderful flavour, I find it better to have more 'normal-sized' tomatoes than a few very large ones.
