I have an abundance of fruit on my tomato plants in the poly tunnel but they are all green and have been for ages. Should I do something to help the process along or just be patient?
Be patient, and while you wait, read this thread:
As you will see, it seems to be a countrywide problem this year because of the unusual weather patterns we've had.
I have an abundance of fruit on my tomato plants in the poly tunnel but they are all green and have been for ages. Should I do something to help the process along or just be patient? If you really are keen to see or use these pick a few wrap in news paper and put in a drawer my father and his before always did this to help stagger thier crops!
Picked (and ate) my first half a dozen red toms on Thursday, today picked a dozen, so guess your's won't be long now. Nan x
Mine in the greenhouse have started to go red in the last 4-5 days.
I've been picking toms for weeks and currently getting a bowl full every day, red and orange, none of the yellow one's have rippened yet though and the toms on the 'moneymaker' plant which is laddened with fruit have been slow to rippen, they just seem to be getting bigger and bigger. I can see that plant snapping in two before much longer some of the fruit is as big as tennis balls, I'm sure they shouldn't be that big.
All a bit late this year I've had some 100s&1000s for a week or two and Rosada are just coming in now and even the first Marmande are just started showing a colour change the last few days.
