This year my onions are fantastic! Last year they hardly grew, almost looked like the original sets.
Tried a new site this year with lots of manure dug in and today lifted them to dry off and I'm really pleased with the sizes. Sorry to boast!
Although I didn't do anything differently when planting them, my onions are also brilliant and much bigger than last year's.
Congrats to you two
Newspaper reports say top year for onions and plums-so this weather has worked for some not others.

Same for me and this is my first proper onion year, the leaves are still green so I pulled one because I could not resist its the size of a medium orange.
My neighbors plum tree is so full of fruit that the branches that hang over our hedge needed propping.

Doing a good job in the garden or allotment is like wee'ing your self in a dark suit. . . . . gives you a warm feeling but nobody notices ! ! ! Cheers, Tony,. Blimey Tone I have wandered all my life why that old gardener I think his name was Venables tied string around his trouser legs just above the knee, and there was me thinking It was to stop his ferrets escaping.
I planted seeds in the spring outside and my onions are now the size of setts; if taken out of the ground now they might make good setts next spring, but i shan't be doing that shall I?
My soil quality is quite questionable, being rather too easily draining top soil. I mixed it with light clay to hold more water, but that is apparently not the answer. I need more nutrients in the ground, for my next onion seed plantings in the spring, and my garlic sett/cloves segments in December.
Your success is almost certainly due to your adding rich nutrients before you got going. Well done.
