A branch has broken off our apple tree which was laden with apples. The apples look ready to eat but on tasting are still quite sour. Will they ripen if left or should I cook them before they rot?
Wrap them in newspaper and store them in a box, check from time to time and eventually they may be edible. Cheers, Tony.

Hi violetscales,
You can wrap the apples in news paper, but why not use them for crumble or for roast meat "ie boil them and add sugar to taste?
Or my favourit chutney, just add the extras to your choice and taste, And apples freeze well when boiled.
Just a bit of advice " a little after the horse has bolted this year & for that branch"
and it's this, thin out the apples while you have a chance to save the branch from snapping,
if you do this the remaining fruit will grow larger and quicker & sweeter,
Regards Punpun.
Thanks for your replies. I got hold of some apple boxes yesterday and will store them in those. Will probably end up cooking them as suggested as we love pies and crumbles.
Sorry about the broken branch. If the tree seems too heavy it is a good thing to shake the tree a little, earlier, and use them in the kitchen
Alternatively remove the largest apples/fruit for use ,and wait for the little ones to get bigger! a labour of love.
