I have a Czar Plum Tree which is about 3 years old, last year I had about 10 plums on it but this year there is about 50 plums I picked about 6 plums and when you cut them open they are brown all round near the pip and on the flesh inside, they are still green inside. Does anyone know why they are brown inside please. I picked about a Tesco bag full of plums today.

    Hello goodbegonia,

I'm not too hot on plums but as no one has posted a reply I'll have a stab at it. Have a good around the stone? It may be there's a a maggot or two. I'm only suggesting this because I have found this problem with sloes. I think the eggs of a pest (with apples it's the Codling moth) are laid in the flower and develop around the stone. And I've just found this link:

Hope this helps, sorry you've got a damaged crop but perhaps you may be able to prevent it next year.

I cut one of the plums open yesterday and there was a white thing wriggling around inside I wondered if it was caterpillar all the fruit was brown so I threw it away. Does anyone know what I can do to stop this happening each year please.

I have contacted an Advice Centre at a Garden Centre today and they said it is the moth they said it happens between May and June so to put a moth trap on any fruit tree about April next year and it should stop the moths as it gives off a scent and that keeps the moths away.

Hello goodbegonia, Sorry for not getting back to you, been very busy! You seem to have sorted out your problem on your own. Yes, the pheromone traps, as far as I can see, are the best bet. Hope you have a better season next year.
