I'm thinking of getting a 2mx3m walk-in tunnel for next year and have been looking up various makes on web sites. Customer comments as to their strength in strong winds, duff zips etc varies so much I'm wondering if any of you have bought one in the past couple of years and can recommend - or maybe not recommend! - any particular makes/models. The type I've bookmarked for now is on www.feelgooduk.net, the 10ft 'Pro' job, but I can't afford to chuck £100 down the drain if it happens. Any comments would be welcome. Thanks.

    Hi MuddyMeldrew

We bought a polytunnel last year, 12ft x 25ft from First Tunnels. I found their advice and customer support very good. OH did not like the idea of trenching the polythene so instead nailed scaffold planks onto the base bars (slightly buried) and then nailed the polythene on and added beading along the seam. A little bit of extra securing pays off. Our polytunnel is quite exposed but did not suffer any damage throughout the storms, snow etc. We have hinged doors on both ends. Give the plastic a good clean in the spring and keep a roll of repair tape just in case. You'll be amazed at how quickly plants grow compared to those outside. Get yourself a good book - I got one by Joyce Russell, giving month by month advice on what to do, and also on the actual build itself - and you should be able to grow for most of the year. Good luck!

You could build your own tunnel; just google it. Polytunnels are great but nothing will grow over the winter months - speaking from experience. Just read an article in 'Organic way' about growing and harvesting lettuce over Xmas which does not happen to any pollytunnel gardener I know. It's the lack of light.
