Last autumn I sowed some home saved delphinium seeds in trays in the greenhouse, which went on to become good flowering plants this summer.
I wondered whether it would be a good time now, to sow more perennials such as Galardia, Rudbeckia, Echinacea and such like for flowers next year.
thanks

I am a very "shy" gardener, so I follow the advice on the seed packets. Out of interest, and wishing to copy your idea(!), I did some research and this is some info that I found on the rhs link below:
"Propagation (rudbeckia)
Propagate by seed in pots in a cold frame in early spring. Propagate by division in spring or autumn"
I have been using a seed sowing calendar that I found on someone else's website. It says that you can autumn sow Delphiniums and Echinacea in autumn but not Rudbeckia. When I collect seeds for free I often try them out of season but not really worth experimenting on bought seeds.
I started sowing flower seeds for the first time last year about this time to grow over winter, only one's which seemed easy peezy though, your choice look and sound alot grander.
I've gone for hardy annuals and biennial. One's I've choosen this year are things like lupin, sweet william, fox glove and stock, these are more tubular flowering.
I grew cornflower last year which did remarkably well so am going to do two varieties this time along with nigella.
I've gone by the distructions on seed packets as to time to sow.
I've grown Echinacea from my own saved seed a few times. I've had better results sowing in spring but try both and see how you get on.
I think I will try a variety of perennials this autumn, see what happens and then repeat in the spring if it fails.
Having succeeded with the delphs last year I like the idea.
It seemed they grew stronger quicker and flowered well this summer.
Also it reduces the amount of spring sowing somewhat which I always get carried away with.
Let us know what is successful . Please.
