is it just me or other people having very poor cobs this time
I have grown a block of 15 plants and the pollination of the cobs has varied from
zero to 75% most exhibiting about 25-40%

The plants were well watered in the spring ande compared to the field grown plants always looked very good most plants had 2- 3 cobs on

We had high hopes of a very good crop this time but it is nearly a disaster
I expect barely ten cobs will be worth eating

Has it been the very bad weather or is it something else
I have suspicions that they may have been exhibiting male sterility

Mine are starting to form cobs and tassles but are less than half the size they should be - I put it down to the cold late spring and summer here in central Scotland.

I'm down in West Wales and the sweetcorn took a very long time to take off. They are looking good now, but they have only recently flowered. They have grown massively in the last few weeks so I have great hopes for the crop.

I never expect more than one good cob per plant. Secondary cobs are a bonus.

Apart from the wonderful weather early on, it has just been too cool this summer, I think.

I reckon the recent weather is the problem - it needs to be hot and sunny when the tassles are distributing the pollen. In Leicestershire, we've had a weird year - drought and hot weather in spring, now cool and wet. Fruit has done well, as have onions (sets), carrots and broad beans, but everything else has a much reduced crop. 50% down on spuds, and hardly any french beans, squash not looking too healthy either, but at least they have some fruit. Tomatoes late ripening, except orange cherries (sungold) which I have masses of!
    Cheers -- Bob

Here in North Wiltshire we've been tucking into them for a week now, Usually they look quite good, but later on I've noticed a few uneven sized 'corns'. Cheers, Tony.

it probably is just the wet weather
but I have never had such a poor crop before
Just about everything else in my garden has had a record time except my parsnips
