We really didn't need to have turkey on our plates this Christmas, 'cause th3e allotment provided us with an amazing variety.
We had parsnips, carrots, baby beetroot, calabrese, scorzonera and potatoes. The year was unually mild but what did other people bring in from their plots?
Happy new year,
Lottie
As I was about to serve dinner on Christmas Day, I sent my grandson (age 18 and not at all the gardening type) into the garden to pick a bunch of parsley.
I explained that it was growing in a pot in the border, and I described it as being stems with a bunch of leaves at the top, rather curly-looking.
He came back with a bunch of Alder cones!!!!
Ha Ha Ha!!!! Ha Ha Ha Ha!!! One of the best of the year!!
(I can't find the smilies)
Hi ,Lottie.
I've only a small area to grow in but was pretty self sufficient until the end of November when the last of the spuds were eaten. I've only pickled beetroot/ shallots, frozen sweetcorn and dried chillies left now, with parsley still growing strong. Sadly nothing on our plates this Christmas from the garden
This year will be different with a few winter vegs planned. I'm going to try a main crop of spuds, swede, parsnips, leeks and brussels
I would have posted you the list of smiley's but don't know how to do links
I do -smileys are here
Happy New Year everyone, I picked curly kale, leeks, parsnips, sprouts and cabbage. Makes up for the losses I had in the summer. I have cauliflowers forming etc. and will be making alot of Veg.soup. Already thinking of sowing parsnips ,although last year's crop (2011) was well fanged it still tastes the same. Good growing for 2012
