I had totally given up on them but I have now found two of them sprouting leaves. At least I think it is garlic. The leaves smells like it. Could it be the coldspell that has triggered germination?
Think it depends when you plant them. Mine were up early this year but then that's because I didn't plant any and can only assume what's growing is something left from last year! Normally, mine came up after a cold spell though. One thing I'll never lose is the delight in seeming them come up though - same with other plants. Hubby gets fed up with being dragged up the garden to see seedlings, lol.

what is it with husbands, I drag mine into my allotment (this is my first go at growing veg) - to look at all of my new babies - is he interested, not in the slightest .
I think mine went into the ground late October early November hence me thinking they were lost.

Hi Swedboy,
This sometimes happens - I planted out 84 garlic bulbs in early November, about
8 didn't show, but are just peeping through now. Have no explanation for it but if they are through now you should still get decent sized bulbs.
I hope so. 80% of the ones I planted are still missing but they might still appear.
Hmmm that's not a good percentage!
The rest (or most) should appear very soon in this case otherwise they may well have rotted off - I hope not with white rot!
It's not too late with Wight Picardy or Wight Cristo to get in some more.
The cloves I used was from the Christos I grew last year. Might have impacted on the quality of the stock. Don't think the low rate was due to disease
