I am growing strawbs in an old wheelbarrow, that has holes for drainage, crocks on the bottom, and was filled this time last year with a mixture of multipurpose compost and horticultural grit. On the top, I have some mypex, and a thin layer of grit. I never once saw slug damage, and the berries had a good place to ripen without rotting.

I helped a friend clear an old strawberry bed, and took a few plants as reward, but they didn't perform well (a few large berries, so I suspect they were just 3-4 year old plants), so I propagated some runners. These are in 9cm pots, and have been in an unheated polytunnel for the winter, so they are "1 year" plants.

The barrow can hold 5 plants. I have checked for vine weevil, and found no grubs. As the barrow only held strawbs for one season, I intend to replant it. Is this ok? How can I help my new plants along, apart from fish/blood/bone and seaweed feed? Should I just replant with something else? This is a photo of the first year, before I changed the compost (vine weevils), and added the mypex layer.

Sounds like you are doing everything just fine.
I would change at least half of the compost before replanting with strawberries. You can chuck the old compost on the garden, or in the compost bin.

I agree sounds like you are doing the right thing.

They should be ok with FBB and seaweed feed.
