I have bought two strawberry plants which I intend to grow in pots. They are quite small at the moment but looked a little pot bound so I re-potted them. so now I have a couple of questions

One of them looks like it has a flower bud forming. Do I pinch it out to encourage it to grow a little stronger?

Are they ok to be put outside or should I keep them in the conservatory for a while yet?

Should I start feeding the plants now?

    many thanks
    Anna

I planted out 12 strawberry plants last week and I personally believe its better to nip the flower off in its first year. Its going to be as low as 0 degress tonight, so, I'll be putting a bit fleece over the top of them just to be on the safe side.

Strawberries are very hardy plants and will usually survive very well outside over winter even in pots which are frozen.

They can be brought into a GH at this time of year to be forced into producing early crops of strawberries, long before those which are left outdoors.

If your strawberry plants are producing flowers now that would indicate they have been kept in relatively warm conditions. Keeping them in your conservatory won't do them any harm providing you keep the pots watered without the pots becoming water logged. You'll get an earlier crop of strawberries.

Alternatively you can put them outdoors but if new plants you would need to harden them off which means getting them climatized and bringing them back indoors each evening.

You shouldn't need to start feeding them now.
