Hi,
I have tried growing Little Gem from seed the past few years. They grow OK, both in troughs and in the garden, but they are always a bit loose and floppy. They never seem to go tight and crisp like the ones you buy in the supermarket. Is there a secret to this and am I doing something wrong?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Ben
I find they like plenty of water and like to be shaded during the hottest part of the day, this stops them losing too much moisture. I also water them at least 1 hr before I cut them. Any outer leaves which are loose, I remove, I'm only interested in the middle. For that reason, I let them grow slighty bigger then you would buy them in the supermarket.
Hope this helps...
Put a rubber band round them.
class that !!
