Before the boards shut, just wanted to thank everyone for their gardening advise and words of wisdom. I've enjoyed being a part of discusions and still very much a novice found tips helpful and most of all inspiring.

New and old posters a like have made some excellent contributions, everyone deserves a pat on the back, could name loads but TG's almanac, such a good resource in my early days will remain in my favorites and continue to be a point of reference.

Will miss some of the long running threads - December in your gardener - the weather thread- compost experiement - the photo gallery(brought back to life by T DC). I was planning a bird and wild life thread for the summer(sadly not now to be)...

Hope to bump into some of you guys in virtual space on some other site...

    happy gardening....

I have only been a member for a few short weeks it is a great shame that the board is closing thanks to all who replied to my few questions.
I will keep digging and look out for you all on other web sites.
Good luck and thank you one and all.

I would like to express my thanks also to all who have posted and to those of you who have given your wisdom freely. It's been much appreciated.

Although I rarely contributed due to my shear lack of knowledge I did nevertheless enjoy the 'banter' so to speak.

I think it's such a shame what the Beeb has done but maybe I'll bump into you in the future on the Gardener's World site. Thank you.

I only joined this board a few months ago but have been reading it for a while.

I wanted to say thanks to all the information that I have a gained from people who have shared their knowledge & experience with me. You don't learn this stuff from just googling or reading mags. I'm in my second year of gardening & this board has helped me so much.

Was looking about here to see where I should say thanks before this board closes.

I'm not a veg grower but have a few radishes planted optimistically. This thread seemed the place.

    Thanks smiley - smiley

Hollie, before we all disappear into the mist, can I just give you a tip about radish? - They need an open sunny spot. smiley - smiley
If it`s too shady you will get plenty of green leaves but tiny roots.

I was listening to Gardeners Question Time on radio 4 a few years back and a listener asked why she had lots of top growth on her radish, but no root.
The panel of experts waffled their way through, but none of them could give her the real answer.

    Hello As-If,

    Thanks for your reply.

I've planted my radish seeds in a large clay pot .
I'm more of flower person but love radishes. I've heard that they are very easy to grow. If I had more space and time I would love to grow more veg.

The pot is in in the sunniest spot of the garden & I am watering well. So far I've got a little top growth coming through, so I'm hoping that this is a good sign that all the growth is going on underneath smiley - smiley

I'm posting on this thread rather than David's Farewell thread because that's what I want to say - THANKS!

Thanks to everyone for all the info I have gleaned from these boards over the years. It's better advice sometimes than from a book or magazine, as it's from real people who have ordinary or poor soil and often less than ideal conditions.

It's not a farewell as I've joined the gardeners world forum along with lots of other people from here. smiley - smiley

    Hi, tattiebogle,

I'm glad of your posting, my message was a genral thanks and from the heart.

I was a tad bit suprised and hurt by message 6 which said don't post here post on David's! Don't know what that was all about!

I've not been around as long as those guys but just wanted to say thanks and think posters can post on either.

Agree absolutely, Zoomer, Some people can be a bit cliquey.
Thanks to every one; without those people willing to ask questions and those people who are willing to answer no boards would survive.

Just to add I have had so much enjoyment out of these boards in the past year or so-it is a shame they have to go but at least most posters have found each other in new homes.

Thanks to one and all (well 99% anyway) smiley - smiley

Just a note of thanks to all for the knowledge I have gleaned over the years from these messageboards. It’s surprising how much information sinks in just by reading even the chatty threads!

I have never been a prolific poster as I only have a very tiny plot and there is a limit to what I needed to know and the experience I have to offer others.

One of the questions I did ask was this:

I think I potted it up about a year later (into one of those deep David Austin rose containers) and this is it today - with a bud!! - having been totally neglected and unprotected during the two hard winters smiley - biggrin. (PS: Parent plant is still alive!)

Thanks again, and see you elsewhere smiley - winkeye

Zoomer - post where you like! It's all closing down anyway - and it was lovely to 'meet' you. David has plenty of threads he has started to ensure his mortaltiy in cyberspace!

It was a very happy few years, interesting, sometimes intriguing - I didn't mind the cliques, it was a snapshot of real life. Trying to find out what it was that attracted certain people to each other, all overlapping at the edges to form a proper community. It would have carried on for many more years too, I am sure, if it hadn't been for the Beeb's economies - as these boards can have hardly cost much to run, I can't think they are saving much, but I suspect it looks good on paper.

But I thank them for having given me the opportunity to make some wonderful and lasting friendships.
