This is probably a stupid question but how much do you need to trim off a stalk of rhubarb ? I know to chop the leaves off but what about the other end. Should I cut off the white bit too ?
Many thanks.
Well i do as i think the white bit is indelible!
But then again I have never tried eating it!
ps I will be glad to see the back of the three minute thing
I cut off the white bit too, most veg gets topped and tailed.
It's just the leaves that are toxic, Pam...best to cut an inch or so below the leaf.
Worth noting that frost damage can cause the oxalic acid crystals to move into the stalks, so best not to eat frosted stalks.
You can compost rhubarb leaves, even though they are toxic if ingested.
