Forgive me, I'm fairly new to this board but I was seeking some advice on garden terrace design.
I've found very little on the web in terms of practical advice, this is probably the best yet:
which is fairly basic.
Specficially, if anyone has any advice on implementing water features and the practical implications therein, I would be enormously grateful.
For a start you need electricity supply near the feature presumably from the house, with weatherproof wiring. You are bound to need a pump.
If you want fish then you need a filter as well.
I often wonder at the costs of water features but the micro-cost is worth investigating as you go along, checking the Wattage cost of each device you consider buying. Then you know how effective it will be.
I have 20w heating belts on my Cider casks, which are very effective.
Heating mats or coils for Greenhouses are good value , yet some people heat the whole greenhouse for no good purpose at all. That is very pricey indeed.
I succeeded in keeping three or four trout for a year or so with a small filter and pump, but Koi are easy to keep, since they only need the natural oxygenation of the algae and so on. A large koi can cost £100. Mine are growing, about 5 years old now and looking healthy. I must get some more small ones in the spring to grow on, in my own sweet way
