I took out some very old roses in the spring.

Can I plant new tea roses in the same place? Also would I need to feed the ground first? And lastly, is now the best time to plant them?

    Thank you.

Now is a really good time to plant-you can plant in the same spot but not in the same soil to avoid rose sickness.
So replace the soil with some from another part of the garden where roses haven't grown-add some garden compost or well rotted manure, bit of bonemeal and away you go.
Remember preparation is so important -these roses could be there for 20years or more

If you can't ùmove soil about in your garden you can still plant new roses as there's a trick.

Find a good cardboard box about 18" cube or more and excavate a hole fo it. Fill with good compost such as John Innes no 3 mixed with some garden compost for extra richness and add a handful of bonemeal and a scoop of the new Root Grow stuff which contains helpful organisms to get your roses off to a good start. Plant the new rose in this making sure to bury the garft join one or two inches bleow the surface. Water in well.

The cardboard and fresh planting medium protect the new roots from possible rose sickness. By thetime the roots have grown big enough to pierce it the rose is sufficiently well established to cope.
