I took photos and played some guitar music to make a short video for Valentine's Day. The photos show the earliest spring growth, buds and flowers emerging from the snow. We can identify most of the plants, but not the amazing purple one right at the end. Can you tell me what it is? It really brightened up a garden I happened to be walking past and seemed oblivious to the snow and ice.

Looks to me like an ornamental cabbage-have posted a link for you
I would suggest an ornamental cabbage.

Thanks for your replies. Brilliant. Are there other plants you'd recommend for winter colour? I know little about gardening so they'd have to be pretty indestructible. As well as low lying plants like the ornamental cabbage, it would be good to know about larger, more structural plants that would provide a splash of colour, when it is cold and dreary. Cheers
Winter colour is difficult, I rely on bulbs and some variegated shrubs .
Every year the magazines and papers list winter flowering shrubs, hope this gives you some inspiration
If you like purple in winter, have a look at the shrub Callicarpa bodinieri giraldii.
It has unusual winter berries.
