Sorry, not strictly gardening, but bird related, and birds do help gardeners, if that's a terse connection....

Is it ok to put out the fluff and lint collected from the tumble dryer filter for birds to use for making their nests? I have lots and can stuff it into a peanut feeder so birds can grab as much as they need. I'm thinking that if this stuff was blowing in the wind, they might grab it for their nests (not that I am a litter or fluff lout!!).

I do use fabric softenner and a tumble dry sheet if that makes any difference.

I think the answers you`ll get for this will depend on who answers.
I`d try it if I had some and thought it would help. I`d trust the birds own senses on whether to take it or leave it.

I use my dryer lint for firestarter, but put out the combings from my cat and dog--and cleanings from my hairbrush. I found an empty hummingbird nest last year, which utilized all 3! I wonder about the fabric softener chemicals, though--they have a bad rep.
