are there any good hardy fragrant climbers (not roses) i can grow in my north midlands edge of the peak district garden?
Some of the clematis montana range are perfumed and not as big as the basic ones, such as 'Elizabeth' , very pretty pink flowers and a vanilla scent. There is always honeysuckle - though the bigger ones of those are not particularly perfumed so you would want to be sure you got one that is.
There are annuals such as sweet peas, but I think you want perennials - slightly more difficult to get perfume as well. Some plant salespersons sell perennial sweet peas saying they are perfumed, don't get caught, pretty they are, perfumed they are not!
Hopefully someone else will have more ideas.

Evergreen clematis armandii 'Apple blossom' is fragrant - flowers in spring and can come again in autumn. Vigorous though, you will need lots of room
are there any good hardy fragrant climbers (not roses) i can grow in my north midlands edge of the peak district garden? The original Clematis Armandii with white/cream flowers is evergreen and perfumed and even survives snow. Usually flowers in January. Another with fragrant flowers is Star Jasmine - full name Trachelospermum Jasminoides - which flowers in summer and grows where it doesn't get much sun (or its cousin Asian Jasmine). Frost didn't kill mine but several days of snow and melt led to its being covered in what looked like soot consequently stopping the plant from breathing. Winter Jasmine has bright yellow flowers on leafless twigs with the leaves coming when the flowers have finished. Not especially fragrant but fully hardy.
Winter Jasmine is not fragrant at all. I would recommend any of the honeysuckles such as 'Graham Thomas'.
It is hardy, but it needs sun and warmth to flower well, as does clematis armandii. I lost both of my armandiis to last winter - I'm in North Yorks.
