  I wasn't quite sure where to put my reply so I put it here as I get the feeling that many of us want the 'inspiration' to move on to a better place but where?
  
  Firstly; many of you have made suggestions and they are scattered all over the boards so I thought I would summarise theme.

  I have been reading all the posts on 'the closing down' subject and there are quite a few I would like to reply to but I wanted to condense my reply rather than reply to each board, I hope you don't mind?
  
  Here goes in alphabetical order; (apart from the first one)
  
  From Gary; Does TG run a website, the Gardeners Almanac. I wondered whether he might decide to put a forum on there. It's not a big job.Ìý
  
  What I have done since your posting is; I have emailed my website host for details on what is involved in setting up a 'forum'
  
  Once I have their reply. and I have read it. I will give the matter some consideration and take it from there.....TgÌý
  
  You say it is not a BIG job Gary, I'm not so sure????
  
  I have been looking at a few pieces of software and yes! with most of these they would be relatively easy to get off the ground.
  
  Many are free but the price for that is; the site would be inundated with ads, something you don't have here!
  
  For sites free of ads there is a charge which varies with the success of the site e.g. if it is a success then bandwidth usuage goes up which costs money, who would pay for this?
  
  Next; Moderating;
  
  The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú moderate;
  Weekdays 09:00-00:00
  Weekends 10:00-00:00
  
  But someone mentioned other sites are open 24/7
  
  When will I have time to have a life?

  From As if; .....new and old gardeners come to the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú website because the BEEB is an institution that is known and trusted by practically every one.
  Before anyone signs on here they know their details are safe, that the forums are moderated, that there`ll be no "f" words, and it will be relatively polite and friendly.Ìý
  
  Well your first point was one reason I joined up to these boards, and regarding the second point I rhink you will find that the people that run these sites are fairly honest.
  
  I have been on various forums over the years and have never found this to be a problem.
  
  What 'newbies' tend to find on new sites is their advice is not accepted as readily as say their previous site but this is fairly normal.
  
  Once you have answered a few queries the older members begin to accept you, this happened to me here on the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú boards so it is something you have to live with!
  
  
  From As if; An old chap, who I`d never seen before, and didn`t know from Adam, explained their uses to me, and told me which he`d tried over the years, and which potatoes were his "good doers".Ìý
  
  I have done this myself on occasions. In shops such as Wilkos I have watched people lift packet after packet of this and that with a confused look on their face, so on occasions I have politely asked if they want any help, most do but some don't I have had the retort " mind your own bl***y business" so you have to be wary....".theirs nout as funny as folk"

  Inspiration Part 4;
  
  From Frank; Tee Gee, my father was a very keen gardener who provided most of our needs from a large garden and smallholding of animals,Ìý
  
  I am a first generation gardener and it looks like I will be the last although to be fair, my daughter has a go at gardening as does one of my grandsons providing I do the 'tricky' bit and germinate the seeds, grow on, and plot on the plants to leave them just to water them!
  
  
  From Frank; This was a simple forum to find and ask those questions now it is gone, the group of dedicated gardeners who answered those questions will be mainly lost if they like me are shy of some of the other forums.Ìý
  
  I am thinking a bit that way myself!
  
  Whats going through my mind is; I might have a " year out" like the modern day students do and come back again for the 2013 season.
  
  Only time will tell.
  
  But even there I might get withdrawal symptoms and come back somewhere for "a fix"

  From Geoff; TAPS already exists and is full of ex board members-would people rather go there- that is they want to make contributions to messageboards or if an alternative was set up would I just be talking to myself and the dog.Ìý

  From Piggin; In response to your description of TAPS, GaryHobson, we do have gardening threads on TAPS, we have a whole board of them but it is members only so you can't see them unless you join.Ìý
  
  I would thought it would have been possible to give us a link to a typical garden query to let us see what is on offer, could you organise that for us?
  
  It would certainly be appreciated by me........beats the ghosts I looked at when I visited the site

  From Trillium; I know many of you are rather sniffy about Twitter, but there's a huge group of keen gardeners there and that's where I tend to be most active nowadays. I post as @suebeesley so if you want to find me there, you will.Ìý
  
  I have never tried Twitter, and as you say I might be a bit 'sniffy' whereas I would possibly say " old fashioned"
  
  Twitter & Facebook comes over to me as a " bit in your face" type of website where I tend to be a bit 'private' reclusive if you like.
  
  I might be wrong! perhaps I should have a look in and see what I am missing!
  
  From Trillium; I've decided it's time to dip my toe in the refined waters of the Floral Marquee at Tatton, so you'll find me there. Would be a great pleasure to meet you after all this virtual time.Ìý
  
  I will be visiting Tatton again this year, I never miss it.
  
  Do you have your "stand number" yet? or if not, what name do you trade under and I will look you up.

  I am not up on this " texting" thing as you will have seen its on the list I posted above.
  
  I have had a mobile phone for a number of years and I never use it,.
  
  It lies in the glove compartment of my car in case of emergency.
  
  The only other time I use it is when I go to say Harrogate or Tatton shows and the wife goes one way and I go another. ( She likes shopping I like the plants)
  
  I find this is a useful way to arrange where to meet up at say lunch time, or when we are ready to go home!
  
  So technology can have its uses

  I have looked at your excellent plan several times over the years. I used to be a gardener, and am one of the admin on Taps. We expand the board to meet the requirements of our members - it really is that simple. We started off as a chat group, an add-on to here at the Beeb, as frivolity was frowned on at the time, but over the years we have added a gardening board and a cookery board, as whether we liked it or not, we were all initially members because of our love of gardening. We are also perhaps not quite as frivolous. I am probably the one who answers most of the gardening queries, and try to get on the board several times a day. There is always someone about though, and many are very experienced gardeners. Of course we don't have as many members as the Beeb, but looking at when some of the threads on here were last answered, I would say that we are busier!
  
  Piggin is our main admin, and I am sure she would give you some pointers on how to start up your own board - you could join any one of the boards mentioned in posts on here just to see how it works, to help you to decide, but really we have had very little trouble over the years and apart from trying to get on as often as possible (all coffee and tea breaks taken at the computer, sometimes breakfast and lunch as well!) and remembering to check for new members and doing a bit of tidying up from time to time (we have just binned a whole load of old threads) the board, once it has nice members, really runs itself. Proboards do have adverts, but just one at the top of the page and in certain instances, depending on the security settings of your computer, many people don't receive any at all.

  Ìý You do right Tee Gee, it's more important to garden.
  
  Good point about all the adverts. I've been looking through some of the sites posted and my main complaints are adverts - especially flashing ones, plus an eagerness to use lots of bright, garish colours, fancy fonts, and too many images. I know I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to web pages, but I lose concentration when I have to wear my sunglasses to look at them.
  
  The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú website is the flagship of usability - white space, orderly, non-cluttered layout and Sans Serif fonts (very important!).
  
  It's a great shame these message boards are closing. Personally I don't use any others. I enjoy learning from the posts, and also contributing from time to time.
  
  So far Real Gardeners Forums and Allotments 4 All are looking promising

  I will miss these boards as I have been visiting for many years and occasionally contributing I am not sure about twitter and facebook as I think they are more for younger people than me and when I have looked at them I think they are more difficult to navigate than this easily accessed get together with like minded gardeners. So I will have to find an alternative but as there seems to be such a choice which is the best?
  People like Trillium Alina and Obelisk and of course Frank and Tee Gee and David K and and and and which do you thin k the easiest and most helpful.
