Concert Information
A concert including two of Tavener鈥檚 most iconic choral works, The Lamb and Song for Athene, originally written for the 麻豆官网首页入口 Singers and finding international fame when it added a searing intensity to the funeral of Princess Diana in 1997. The 麻豆官网首页入口 Singers also perform two works inspired by composers Tavener admired, the London Premiere of Missa wellensis, quoting the music of Victoria, and Coplas, influenced by JS Bach. The choir is joined by organist Stephen Farr for what Tavener called a 鈥榙ivine allegory鈥 in Thunder entered her, based on poetry written by the 4th century St Ephrem. As part of the 麻豆官网首页入口 Symphony Orchestra's Total Immersion day, the 麻豆官网首页入口 Singers remember the extraordinary man and his music with a concert of his finest choral music. The programme includes his tender hymn The Lamb, serene Song for Athene and the London premiere of his Missa brevis.
