Narcissus, the Thespian hunter who fell in love with his own image, inspired Matthias Pintscher to compose his own reflection on 鈥榯he interaction of different groups and their mirror images鈥�, a work for cello and orchestra. Pintscher conducts Reflections on Narcissus here before a semi-staged performance of Mendelssohn鈥檚 incidental music to A Midsummer Night鈥檚 Dream.

Mendelssohn鈥檚 delicate, mercurial and strident music is interspersed with excerpts from Shakespeare鈥檚 text to form a centrepiece of this season鈥檚 celebrations of Shakespeare鈥檚 400th anniversary.
